The Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata has issued a 4-day weather warning for North Bengal, with Darjeeling and Kalimpong under ORANGE and RED alert from July 8 to July 11, 2026.

Here is what the official maps show:

**DAY 1 (Today till 8:30 AM, 8 July): ORANGE ALERT**

- Isolated thunderstorm with lightning

- Gusty winds 30-40 kmph, reaching 40-50 kmph in places

- Heavy rain (7-11 cm) and Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) in one or two places

- Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar districts on alert

**DAY 2 (8 July - 9 July): RED ALERT — MOST DANGEROUS**

- This is the worst day. North Bengal hills are in RED (Take Action).

- Scattered Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) with ISOLATED EXTREMELY HEAVY RAIN (>20 cm)

- Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds 30-40 kmph

- High risk of landslides, road blocks on NH-10, Pankhabari and Rohini routes

**DAY 3 (9 July - 10 July): ORANGE ALERT**

- Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) continues in hills

- Thunderstorm, gusty winds 30-40 kmph

**DAY 4 (10 July - 11 July): ORANGE/YELLOW**

- Heavy rain (7-11 cm) and Heavy to Very Heavy (7-20 cm) likely

- Thunderstorm risk remains

**What this means for Darjeeling:**

- School children and office-goers: leave early, expect delays on Hill Cart Road

- Tea garden workers: risk of slippery slopes

- Tourists: avoid night travel to Siliguri, check NH-10 status before starting

- Residents near jhoras and landslide zones (Tindharia, Gayabari, 14th Mile): stay alert

The Met Office says "ISOL" means at one or two places, "SCT" means at a few places — but in the hills, even one heavy spell can trigger a slide.

We are in monsoon peak. Last year, similar warnings led to 6-hour jams on the Siliguri-Darjeeling road. Don't wait for the red.

**Khabar Darjeeling Advisory:**

1. Keep torch, power bank charged

2. Avoid riverside and construction areas during heavy spells

3. If you see a new crack on the road, report to local police or DM us

4. Share photos of waterlogging/landslides with location — we will publish updates

Stay safe, pahad. We will update every morning at 8 AM.
