GSP Opposes GTA Revival, Demands Sabhasads Resign
The Gorkhaland Sangram Party (GSP) has come out against any move to revive the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), demanding that all sitting Sabhasads resign immediately and warning of street protests if the body continues operating.
What the GSP is demanding
GSP spokesperson Sanjay Thulung said the party wants an end to GTA operations and any attempt to revive it, arguing that continuing to run the body contradicts promises made before the last Assembly elections.
"This is a crucial period, time to pave the path for Gorkhaland," Thulung said. "Before the last Assembly elections, the BJP along with MP Raju Bista had time and again stated that the GTA is an utter failure. They had assured that as soon as the BJP came to power in Bengal, GTA would be scrapped and the process for a Permanent Political Solution (PPS) would start. The Hills voted for the BJP owing to this."

Thulung said the party would launch public protests if the situation demanded it, including a possible gherao of Lalkothi, the GTA secretariat.
What triggered the demand
The GSP's statement follows a GTA meeting held on Friday, chaired by a newly appointed administrator along with 29 Sabhasads — a sign, to critics, that the body is continuing to function despite the BJP's earlier pledge to scrap it.
The GTA has been without an elected Chief Executive since Anit Thapa resigned along with several members, leaving the body currently run by officials.
A scrapped project report, and an administration still deciding
Separately, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista said at a coordination meeting in Uttarkanya that a ₹200 crore Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared for the GTA has been scrapped, calling it a report designed "for contractors and leaders, not for the people of the hills."
The state government, roughly two months into office, has indicated it needs more time before making a final call on the GTA's future, with Bista saying the decision will ultimately come from the Chief Minister's office. In the meantime, the GTA continues to operate on a ₹360 crore budget, with efforts underway to secure an additional ₹150 crore from other departments and the Fifteenth Finance Commission.
