• Anit Thapa Confirms GTA Resignation: “From Today, I Fight for Caste Liberation”
Self‑styled community leader Anit Thapa has officially resigned as Chief Executive of the Greater Tarai and Autonomous Area (GTA), confirming that he will now devote his efforts to the “liberation of the caste” and to uniting all Gorkha voices under a single movement.
Thapa submitted his resignation on 17 June 2026 and on 24 June 2026 received the official acceptance letter. In a public statement, he said:
“I did not choose the chair for the sake of caste. Many raised doubts and questions about my resignation. But Anit Thapa always speaks and fulfills what he says. I have been fully relieved of my responsibilities as the Chief Executive of GTA. This relief will now be used for the cause of the liberation of our caste.”
He called on all Gorkhas to unite:
“Let us unite the various voices of all Gorkhas into one voice. If the caste survives, the party will survive. I call upon all Gorkhas to unite for the liberation of our caste.”
Thapa’s resignation marks a significant shift in GTA leadership and is seen as a potential turning point in the ongoing debate over caste identity, political representation, and the broader Gorkhaland movement.
Community members and political observers are closely watching how Thapa will use his new position to influence the next phase of Gorkha politics and whether his call for unity will lead to a more consolidated front for the Gorkhaland cause.
